Web + Mobile
The app producers carry through the barn and the platform their business runs on, sharing one backend so a count logged in the field is the number the office sees.
Project highlights
Gamebird operations run on thin margins and narrow seasons. A single incubator can hold more than $10,000 in eggs, and customers expect flight-ready birds on an exact date. Most operators still track all of it on spreadsheets, whiteboards, and memory, so a failed incubator or a double-booked order is found far too late. Fixing that took more than an app. HatchTracker also needed somewhere to run the operation from a desk, a way to sell and enforce plans, and team accounts for seasonal staff.
We built the field app, the platform, and the API as one system rather than bolting a backend onto a finished app. Every mobile screen assumes one hand, bad light, and a hurry. Auth works the same for a browser session and a mobile token, plan limits are enforced in one place instead of being re-implemented per client, and every change to a record is written to an audit trail. A count logged in the barn is the same number the office sees.
What we built
A React Native app built with Expo covering hatches, breeding groups, chicks, inventory, contacts, reservations, and analytics, with Mapbox site maps, CSV and XLSX export, push notifications, secure token storage, and over-the-air updates. Behind it, a Next.js dashboard and REST API with around 60 endpoints on MySQL, with typed schema migrations that apply automatically on deploy, Stripe subscriptions across five tiers with webhooks and a customer portal, feature gating per plan, team accounts with invitations, and a ledger that records every entity change.
The outcome
Shipped to the App Store and Google Play and now past its second major version, with one backend serving both the dashboard and the app in production. Plans, permissions, and bird counts stay consistent across every surface the customer touches, and a field-reported bug can turn into a delivered fix without waiting on a store submission.
